Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931), was an American philosophical essayist, novelist, poet, and artist. He dealt with themes as love, nature, death, and longing for the homeland. The Roman Catholic Church excommunicated him because of the insurgency written in his books. By calling him “My young prophet” Josephine Preston inspired Gibran for the book. Serious cirrhosis and tuberculosis caused
his death in the United States in 1931.
